FinTech Focus is a three-week immersive program designed for incoming college freshmen with an interest in finance, computer science and technology.
Over the course of the program, students learn the principles of computer science, gain exposure to the financial services industry, and get hands-on experience developing real-world applications. Students will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers, learn the basics of banking and finance, and gain insights into STEM careers paths available in college and beyond.
The course will take place at the offices of top financial firms in New York City, and is open to students who are completing their final year of high school and are enrolled in an accredited university for Fall 2019.

The program starts on July 6, 2020 and ends July 31, 2020. It runs on all weekdays between these dates from 9am - 4pm. Participants are expected to attend all days of the program.
The number one priority of the FinTech Focus team is the safety of our participants. If COVID-19 prevents us from hosting students in-person, we are considering a number of options including running the program virtually. If the program happens virtually, participants would need a quiet place to work with access to Wi-Fi in order to participate. A laptop will be provided to all participants (shipped to participants’ locations before the program begins).
Applications are due at 11:59pm EST on Monday, April 6, 2020.
There is no cost to participate in the program. Additionally, participants will be paid a total stipend of $2,400, paid in two installments.
We accept applications from students that do not attend a New York City metro area high school. However, in order to be eligible for the program you must be able to attend the four-week program in person. Please be advised that housing is not provided through the program, and you will be responsible for securing your own accommodations and transportation to New York.
Yes. Participants in the program will receive a transportation stipend roughly equivalent to the cost of a monthly metrocard to cover the expense of travel.
FinTech Focus will be located in the Manhattan, Jersey City, or Downtown Brooklyn offices of the five sponsoring organizations: Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo. Once accepted into the program, participants will be notified of the site to which they’ll be reporting.
Yes, breakfast and lunch will be catered daily. We will be sending a survey prior to the start of the program to collect any dietary needs and/or restrictions.
The curriculum is project-based, and focuses on web development with Python. Languages and technologies covered are HTML, CSS, Python, Flask, and Databases. By the end of the course, students will have built their own full-stack web application. This class is not a replacement for a college computer science course - rather, it gives students a practical introduction to building real-world applications. Students will find that the skills they learn in this program will continue to be useful in college-level computer science courses. In addition to coding, participants will learn about the Financial Technology (FinTech) industry and also gain a foundational understanding of corporate banking/finance.
After the immersive four-week program, students will join an active alumni network where they’ll gain access to webinars, weekly office hours, events, and more. The FinTech Focus team hopes to provide support and guidance to students as they move through college and begin their professional careers.
Join us for an upcoming information webinar session to learn more about the FinTech Focus program! These sessions will review curriculum, the application process, and provide a space for attendees to ask any outstanding questions about the program.
